After all the hype about who we were going to bring in, it all ended in a shambolic final transfer day. The first sign was the failure to get a work permit for Mark Gonzalez. Not our fault. Then came the sale of Baros. Not because he couldn't contribute to the team. He was superb in pre-season but failed to start in any of our games thereafter. Sold to fund a right winger and central defender who never came. Why did we wait till the final day? One will never know. None of the other Premiership clubs failed so miserably in the transfer market. Many are now talking about who we are going to buy in January. That is, if we can escape the transfer ban arising from the Kewell saga.
So what positives can come out of this? I guess it is a chance for the current side and the youngsters to stake their claims. But talk about our first 2 league matches and you get my point. But don't get me wrong, I have great admiration for Rafa and I still believe he can lead us to achieve great things.

The only thing is - when you're now European Champions, you now hope for a natural progression in the league. But as a long-time fan, I've stuck with the team through all the years of underachievement and I'll continue to stand behind it. Can the current squad make it? Will Rafa get it right?
