BENITEZ HOPING FOR BETTER BLUES SHOWINGWe were the only premiership side not to have scored against Birmingham last season. It's payback time. I hope we f***in stuff em! Steve Hunter 24 September 2005 Benitez described it afterwards as...
Would a salary cap be good for English Football? What do you think? What's your take on this? Apparently it seems to be under discussion.
Sam Allardyce has been on Sky saying that it would lead to a mbutt exodus from the Premiership as well as other leagues in England of talented players.
I tend to agree with him and think a salary cap would be very bad and wouldn't work especially if the rest of Europe wasn't subjected to the same rules. It could set English football back decades.
On the plus side though, it would give you a chance to see who really are the best managers, and how the teams stack up against each other with the exact same outgoing on salaries for players. Of course a lot of the good managers we have in English football at the moment would probably leave as well if a salary cap was imposed. You would end up though without as many mercenaries and prima donnas, and you would tend to have more players at your club who were dedicated to the club and cause not just their pay checks and Ferraris.
If there was a salary cap I think it would tend to bring down clubs to the level of other clubs instead of trying to increase the quality upwards from the bottom to that of the top clubs. If you look at the NFL where they have a salary cap, you more often than not have different teams winning it each year. There is only rarely the odd exception to that rule when you have a team of quality footballers with a good coach than can manage to keep the team together. Largely their is a lack of consistency because teams have to offload one of their best players each year or many of its players on lower salaries in order to stay under the cap.
I would prefer to have other clubs in the Premiership try to take away the crown from Chelsea without changing the rules for this to happen. The rules were not changed to prevent Man U from winning the title. Other teams every so often until of late managed to win it fairly, eg Blackburn and Arsenal.
If a salary cap was imposed that would severely effect the game we love and it would no longer prosper. It would also have an affect outside the game too and could damage the country more economically.
Athletic in Orbaiz admissionAthletic Bilbao insist they have received no official contact from Liverpool regarding midfielder Pablo Orbaiz, but have hinted the player is for sale at the right price. Orbaiz, a full Spanish international, is...
Anyone who would favour a salary cap? I wouldn't mind a cap on ticket prices personally, now there's a good idea! ;)
