The club were under enormous pressure from the Football league to get back and play a scheduled league fixture. The club was playing in the European cup in the face of strong opposition from the football authorities in England. This is indeed documented in accounts of the disaster. There are those even today that place a huge part of the blame on the Football league. As always when anyone travels by air they put their faith and trust in the people who are qualified to make the decision to fly or not. These were young men that had very little if any experinece flying. Hell, Duncan Edwards used to ride his bike to the ground on match nights! They didn't realise the implications of attempting to fly in this kind of weather. The Captain made the decision that it was safe to fly that day.Speaking as one that lived through the time of the disaster and remembering just how good that team was I have no doubt that they would have continued to dominate the domestic scene and they had learned how to play in Europe (beating teams 10-0 away in Europe can certainly be considered dominant). They were extremely young and so far ahead of anyone else in England at that there is no indication anyone would have caught up with them for a very long time. I'm not going to get into the European ban because I don't think it's relevant to this topic.
