I'd take RVN over Rooney and I'd start RVN over Crespo or Drogba but he would have to play in a 2 stiker system because he's lost in a 4-3-3 because both CBs are marking him and the full-backs marking Rooney and Ronaldo. I'd start him with Crespo who seems to complement RVN better than Drogba would.
Gerrard? As a workman DM I'd take Hamman over him anyday, even Silva. As a creative DM I'd take Alonso over any other DM in the league.
My XI involving the 4 teams:
RVN Henry
Robben Lampard Makelele Ronaldo
Heinze Gallas Terry Ferreira
Cech
Bench:
Cudicini Drogba Ferdinand Carragher Alonso
Manager: Mourinho of course.
I'm not saying Ferdinand, Campbell or Carragher and Hyppia aren't quality players but the Terry-Gallas duo just seems to work in perfect synch like no oother combination at Chelsea or anywhere else in England. Thuram and Cannavaro are great of course.
The full-backs, keeper and midfield are easy choices IMHO.
RVN and Henry is a dream duo upfront but I'm not sure of it's functionality in real life. Henry seems cut out for a 4-4-1 and seems less effective in a standard 4-4-2 with another pure striker by his side. Henry needs to play with a more creative striker in his back ala Bergkamp or Reyes but never side by side.
I think Arsenal's offense circa 2003-04 with Henry-Bergkamp-Pires-Reyes-Vieira was fantastic but on the other side of the midfield line there was Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole and little else. Had wenger retained Vieira and added a fast man-marking CB and a world clbutt RB and keeper and he would have gone much farther in Europe and the Premiership.
OT: Moyes the CowardWonder how long they will give him..... A lot longer I hope ! Moyes let the side...
