Interesting stats, but I an not sure if they prove anything against the idea that all cup competitions have that lottery element to them. Aren't most people who suggest this just making the comparison between league winners and cup winners?
I think you are replying to a charge that was never made. It is the undeniable fact that a team can leave a cup comp because of an off day, even though their overall form is far better and more consistant than the rest, which turns it into a lottery, at least in the early stages.
The FA Cup has this lottery feature to it, just ask Spurs or Man U, but even so, just like the Euro CH CUP, the cream tends to rise to the top. Over the past 15 seasons the cup has mainly been in the possesion of just a few clubs, Man U, Arsenal, Pool, Chelsea and Spurs.

The road to the final is open to much luck , and the team draw adds to the uncertainty. We will soon again see better sides eliminated than many who are left in. Thats where the lottery is, even though we will end up with two decent sides in the final......maybe...... but the best two?
