99 von Schubert Abtsberg Riesling Auslese #165

A couple of days ago I reviewed a '99 Vinas de Gain Rioja from Artadi. With a lot of enthousiasm a was able to write a review and post it on this NG. The next day I was helping out a friend who has a wine store in the Netherlands. After I finished installing his new ADSL modem he opened up a bottle of '99 von Schubert Abtsberg Riesling Auslese #165.

It was everything I expected it to be. A superior glbutt of sweet Riesling. But that said... it was just that. As far as this is a far more superior wine compared to the Artadi I drank the day before this wine just didn't do much to me at the moment. Check up on a standard review of a great mosel riesling and you get what I drank. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the wine from a drinking perspective (it gets a B rating). I just didn't like trying to review it, so sorry guys, I didn't. The last couple of great sweet rieslings I've had where far more interesting in deviating from "the standard" or at least my mindset as I remember (Dr. Loosen Urzicher Wurzgarten Auslese (Normal and Goldcap), J.J. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese (Normal and Goldcap))

My question here is... Do you ever have the same when drinking a wine. Loving the taste and recognizing it's a perfect example of a good made wine but just not interesting since it doesn't have it's own quircks?

That said I am eagerly waiting until this flu is over. There are a couple of interesting wines waiting (Just bought a case of Slovakian Chateau Bela Riesling 2001 by Egon Muller and got a couple of nice Austrian wines)
