A "special" Birthday wine .net says... Large outdoor event area, underground barrel cellar, gazebo, picnic areas, and spectacular views! Family owned and operated, come see where it all began! Location: 3553 E Road, Palisade, CO 81526 Phone: 800-848-2812 Fax: 970-464-0574 Web Site: www.coloradocellars.com Directions: I-70 Exit 37, Hwy 141 south to C 1-2 Rd, east 5.6 miles Hours: Summer: Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat 10-5; Winter: Mon-Fri 9-4 and Sat 11-4 Features: Colorado's original and oldest winery - since 1978, featuring 35 wine-made foods, gifts and wine accessories. Large outdoor event area including gazebo and picnic area. Wines: Reserve White Zinfandel, Alpenglo Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cherry, Plum, Red Zinfandel, Pinot Gris, Roadkill Red, Millennium Port, etc. Many of their varietal wines are better, than is the red-blend RKR. Though Colorado is not often thought of as a "wine heaven," there are some decent small producers there, mainly in the Palisades "banana belt" region near Grand Junction. Plum Creek Winery does some very nice Cab S and Fs, and the Vail Valley winery offers some very nice wines too, though all were from CA juice. I think that they did develop a CO-only wine line, but forget the name - Aspen something??? I believe that Ed Rasimus is in CO, so he can probably fill in details that have either changed, since I last lived there, or correct things that my failing memory have pbutted by. Depending on where you are located, Colorado Cellars may be able to ship to you. The wine was available at the venerable Applejack's in Lakewood, CO. Hunt
