A Trip to France I've been lurking on the newsgroup for about a month and have found a great many good suggestions from what seems to be a good group of people. The reason for my post is that I, my wife, and her parents are heading off to France in a month and a half and I was hoping I could get some suggestions about some chateaus, wineries, wine shops, etc to visit. We'll be spending a week in Pontlevoy (Loire Valley, just outside of Blois or Tours) and just under a week in Paris. From what "research" I've done so far, I've found two places nearby to possibly visit: 1) Monmousseau's Cellars 2) Paul Buisse Are these two worth visiting? Any other suggestions of places to visit in the Loire Valley and the surrounding area(s) would be most helpful. By the way, no need to include areas in the Bordeaux region as we won't have time to make it down there. In Paris we're staying on rue Bouchardon, so any wine shops near there (or near a Metro stop, as we'll be making use of the great system) would also be helpful. One last thing, any suggestions of wine I should be on the lookout for would be helpful as well. I definitely want to try a French rose, as well as white(s) and red(s). With white(s), I tend towards the citrus side, looking more for a Chardonnay type wine, or a "dry" Riesling. When it comes to red(s), I tend to stay near the Syrah-Shiraz, loving the spice-pepper notes. I tend to shy away from Merlot and Cabs as they tend to be too "earthy" for me, too heavy (though a Merlot I've found I can handle is from Bogle Winery, if that's any help). I'm looking for two (possibly three) price ranges for the wine I purchase: 1) 5-10 USD (4-8 Euros): Wine we'll be drinking while we're there with dinner. 2) 25-50 USD (20-40 Euros): Wine coming home with us for special events. 3) 100-150 USD (81-122 Euros): If there's a wine that I shouldn't leave France without and is priced twice as much here in the States, I may think about picking it up for super special events.
