Demand for Patience: WilliamsSelyem Some times I do things that seem like a good idea at the time, but in retrospect may challenge the budget excessively. I don't change my behavior as a result of this realization, but it's good to see I have enough common sense to realize what I've done. A few years ago, after a particularly good dinner out where I had the chance to sample a Williams-Selyem Pinot Noir, I promptly went to the winery web site the next AM and registered to some day get on "The List". Good things come to those who wait, even if it is a year or two of waiting. This past summer I got notified that I'd joined the exalted few. Around Christmas I got a letter with my "allocation". And, paranoid that I am, I figured that I'd better make a pretty good dent in my allocation or else I'd be quickly purged for someone more worthy. Today, my shipment arrived. Now, I've got several bottles of W-S Pinots from the '04 vintage waiting to recover from their shipping trauma. In the package I got a couple of Sonoma Coast, three Sonoma County, five Russian River Valley and one precious "Westside Neighbors". With small numbers and no re-order potential, the main issue was how long to wait until corks get pulled. I think, this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship...
