Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Auslese 1976, BbuttermannJordan The wine is Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Auslese 1976, Dr. Bbuttermann-Jordan, AP Nr. 5 106 064 5 77. This wine has been properly stored by me since shortly after release. The color is golden. The bouquet is very intense - you can smell the clean, aged, petrol-like Riesling character from quite a distance away. If you can not identify this as a riesling at once, you likely need to see your physician concerning you ability to smell.. There is considerable fruit in the bouquet and taste, but more of a dried fruit character, such as dried apricot. There is a bit of herbal character. There is not much honey character. The wine is sweet, but not nearly as sweet as some other top 1976 auslesen. There is enough acidity, but a bit more would not hurt. There is a bit of heavy character. Bbuttermann-Jordan likely is making better wines today than in the 70s. I like the Forster Kirchenstuck Riesling Auslese 1976, Dr. Burklin-Wolf more than this wine. This is a very decent wine, but I do not think it would be near the top at a blind tasting of 1976 riesling auslesen. The name of the wine is one of the best know in the Pfalz, likely because it is called "Jesuit Garden". Wines have been made in the Pfalz an extremely long time, and many vineyards at one time were church property. This vineyard likely belonged to a Jesuit order in the distant past, but Bbuttermann-Jordan has been an owner for a very long time.
