French wine glut heading to distilleryOT

TN: Cbuttoulet night at Solano Cellars
A recently inaugurated tradition in our household is to repair to a local wine shop-bistro (Solano Cellars) for a Friday...

OT---Not meant to offend anyone:

I too live in a Red State---North Carolina and I am a Conservative-Moderate. That being the case we have fought many a war for Freedom...and perhaps cheaper oil prices :-) that have not appeared yet. I did not appreciate the political stance France took then or now. But I cannot really say that France was wrong in the actual sentiment and the fact that no WMD's were found the position France took was not really wrong.

There is always a lot between the lines, particularly when political issues arise. For example, after I...

One question we have to ask in the name of intellectual honesty is what would have happened had we listened to France and not invaded IRAQ. This is 1) We would have forced the UN to step up their search for WMDS' 2) Continue to contain Iraq. 3) Stay focused on war with Al Quaeda 4) Saved over 1000 American Soldiers lives 5) Saved about 300 Billion USD on War 6) Not have most of Free World peeed at USA. and oh yeah the big one....Sadaam would still be in Power. Woop De Doo.

I guess when we have fought for freedom and diversity of opinions it really did not bother me that much that France took the position they did cause they are France...and I think that says it all. They are enbreastled to their position---even if I did not like that many a US soldier fought in WW2 in France...that was for the defeat of Nazi Germany...

We do no favors to the world when we open the world for a free economy, push for democracy and then chastise France for expressing their opinions and rights. Had we listened to them I think there is a chance we would have been better off too. Ut oh...is that heresy to my party...is that treason?

All I can say is no farmer in the USA or France should be punished because of a position our government took or theirs. Not all farmer in the USA supported Bush and not every farmer in France supported Chirac. I guess some commerce should not be political.

For those that have ceased buying French wine due to Iraq I am sorry. But I am even more sorry that the French wine in the North Carolina shops I have been in have not come down....That is a shame.
