Marinda Park Norm's Pinot 2003

Hi Mat Glad you enjoyed it! I paid $18 for this wine at Randalls in Albert Park. Be a little careful of their top tier Pinot, if you found the Norm's Noir lacked some fruit for your taste you would be very disapointed in the 2001 (it was on tasting at the winebox warehouse sale, I went on the Sunday) though the 2002 received a good write up in the latest winestate earning 41-2 stars.

As for the lack of up front fruit you need to take into account that it isn't a warm climate shiraz (can you say "fruit plant" ) but a cool climate Pinot Noir. The Norm's was, for a pinot, a fairly fruit driven style. This is a good easy drinking style with enough complexity to make it memorable, it also goes very well with food. Here is my note on the wine.

Bright sparkling garnet with a nose of strawberries, black cherry, and a hint of compost. Black cherries & plums on the palate with nice toasty oak through the middle. Deliciously, rich mouth filling texture with excellent structure and a spicy finish well balanced with acid. No raspberry cordial here, this is seriously gooood Pinot.

Cheers andrew

TN: a real late harvest zin
Given my complaining about overripe, high alcohol Zinfandels, I decided to pop the cork on a half bottle of a real late harvest, desert style Zinfandel...
