Oddest item in your cellar Hello; Xina ordered me, a half hour ago or so, to stuff our latest purcahses in the cellar Or Else. SInce there was a not of no-nonsense in the way she said Or Else, I did not but make haste to carry out the fullfilment of her instructions. I was, as is not seldom the case, surprised by the state of the cellar: cases, bottles, and what-not about waist high, provided you do not have a very high waist. I also, again, contemplated the sauna-heater forlornly hanging on the wall, which might have been the subject of the breastle for this post (as a decidely odd item in a wine cellar, a sauna heater certainly fills a bill of a quite high denomination), only, it ain´t. I found what I consider the most curious item, to wit, a bottle of 1991 Pöltsamaa Kuldne - wine, of a sort, given to me a good five years ago, for my 50th anniversary, by a friend and colleague of Estonian descent. It is indeed an Estonian apple wine, 'Pöltsamaa GOlden' as the back side label explains (Pöltsamaa being a place name, the maa at the end would mean 'island' or something of the sort). I am saving it for a special occasion - quite how special remains to be seen. The Georgian (as in Georgia in Caucasus) red he presented me at the same time has gone the way of all flesh, or wine, lo these many moons. Second place interms of oddness would no doubt be my two bottles of Bourgogne Hidromel, mead, in short. Properly speaking, none f these are wines, really. The third place could arguably be claimed by two bottles of Albanian Black Wine, with coca cola caps. Don´t ask. At least, it´s wine, in the sense that it is a fermented alcoholic beverage made from grapes. SO. Tell me. What are YOUR oddest cellar items?
