TN: Wines at Aquavit for Restaurant Week
Every year I try to visit at least one restaurant during NY's Restaurant Week. Some places (like the Danny Meyers' restaurants) make a great effort to please the customer during this promotion, others less so...

Tuesday Betsy made an Asian dish, beef jantaboon (stir-fried beef with fresh rice noodles, topped with pea shoots), accompanied by a tart bok choy dish. I served a lightly cooled 2002 Michel Lafarge Bourgogne Pbuttetoutgrain. Lots of black cherry fruit, some pepper and earth. Delicious- light without being a lightweight, fruity without being spineless. B+ (A for value)

Last night was first of the weekly jazz concerts at the local park by the Hudson. Good quartet led by a guitarist, beautful weather, nice setting. We sat with friends and sipped the rest of the Lafarge Pbuttetoutgrain and a bottle of the 2004 Cantalupo "Il Mimo ." Stil my favorite ros=E9 so far this summer, nice red (cherry and strawberry) fruit, some mineral and herb notes. Good acidity let it pair well with the variety of foods we had - leftover chicken, an endive salad w-anchovy-based dressing, and a variety of cheeses- Big Hill Blue, Keen's cheddar, and a cave aged Mellage. Well, at least the first two- before we actually ate the latter, Lucy the Bbuttet managed to get it in her mouth (I got it out, but goodbye cheese). B++ for the Mimo.

Fun evening, when we could distract Lucy from the food (a bone helped, as did the the mulbreastude of little kids coming over to pet her). I love summer. =20 Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency
